His brother shrugged. "The media decide what's their business."

"Yes, but this is deeply--bedroom- -personal. People shouldn't have to do this."

Another shrug. "What can I say? After last year? You have to show the idiocy of the situation."

"You're right. It's gotten out of hand." Cameras flashed as he pushed back the curtain. "I wanted to address the issue you seem obsessed with." He glanced at the notes as if he didn't remember his line. "As you suspected, for as long as I remember, I have been heterosexual."

“I’m ringing to enquire about signature machines.”

“You’ve contacted the right company, sir.  We produce a range to suit every requirement.  You’ll find the machine a godsend for the busy executive.”

“Will it take any pen?”

“Certainly, sir.  Fountain pen, biro, pencil: our machines cope with anything.”

“Will it copy my handwriting precisely?”

“Of course.  Our machines are fully programmable.  The handwriting will be indistinguishable from your own.  Would you like us to send a representative to demonstrate the signature capture?”


"Well, actually, I'm not so interested in copying my signature.  Will the machine reproduce an entire Line of script?"

In for Service

The guy is coming round this evening to get my insurance details.  So I reckon the best plan is to be out.  There was hardly a scratch on his car anyway.  If there’s no one in he’ll just give up and go away.  It’s Rob’s turn to cook tonight so he’ll be more than happy to eat out.

“Hey, Rob.  Do you fancy going to The Bombay Brasserie tonight?”

“Yes, if you do, love.  Are you sure you want to drive all that way though?

“I thought we could go in your car.”

“No; my car’s in for service.”

Eeek.

Author's Note: Luke wanted to write a drabble, but he could only get it to equal 100 words in Russian. Fortunately for the non Russian readers Luke was nice enough to translate. 

The Scene: Luke is lying on the bed studying for a Russian test. He falls asleep, his textbook resting on his chest.

Кошмар

Где был Тихон? Миша? Он ничего не видел; кикого не слышал. Где были они? 

“Тихон, Миша, где вы? Я заблудился.”

Только темнота. Темнота везде. “Тихон, где ты? Я ничего не знаю. Помоги мне, пожалуйста. Я боюсь.”

Далеко он повидел свет. Кто-то носил свечу. Свеча горела - маленький свет.

 Кто был так далеко?

“Лука, мой голубчик, я здесь. Мы здесь; Миша тоже здесь. Разбуди!”

Лука разбудил. Тихон и Миша стояли у кровати.

Тихон сказал, “Что ты видел во сне?”

“Я думал, что ты исчез, что я был один.”

“Никогда. Я лублю тебя. Я всегда буду лубить тебя, всегда буду здесь."

The Nightmare

Where was Tilden? Mike? He didn’t see see anything; he didn’t hear anyone. Where were they?

“Tilden, Mike, where are you? I’m lost.”

There was only darkness -- darkness everywhere. “Tilden where are you? I don’t know anything. Help me, please. I’m afraid.”

Far away he saw a light. Someone was carrying a candle. The candle burned -- a tiny light.

Who was so far away?

“Luke, my little pigeon, I’m here. We’re here. Mike’s also here. Wake up!”

Luke woke up. Tilden and Mike were standing by the bed.

Tilden said, “What did you see in your dream?”

“I thought that you had disappeared that I was alone.”

“Never, I love you; I will always love you. I will always be here."
